On 16 May SAPPF and UHAC submitted two documents to the Department of Trade, Industry & Competition (DTIC).
The SAPPF document, written largely by attorneys at Webber Wentzel, has a legal emphasis, whereas the Universal Healthcare Access Coalition (UHAC) document, drafted by Professor Alex Van Den Heever from Wits, looks at it from a health economics and governance perspective, wrote Surgicom CEO Dr Philip Matley in a circular to members.
In the documents SAPPF and UHAC are calling for the “withdrawal of Government’s interim block exemption for tariff negotiations initiative and its complete redrafting, whilst supporting the full implementation of the recommendations published by the Health Market Inquiry in 2019”.
SAPPF has also met with the Competition Commissioner to discuss the matter.
