WHO and UNICEF launch ‘Babys Before Bottoms Line’ campaign

The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have launched a hard-hitting campaign in SA titled “Babies Before Bottom Lines.”- reported Daily Maverick(30 April 2025)
“The initiative directly challenges what the organisations describe as the ‘predatory and pervasive’ digital marketing practices that some baby formula companies employ. According to the WHO and UNICEF, these companies exploit unregulated digital spaces and use targeted, often misleading messages to influence vulnerable parents and caregivers.
“Few nations currently have legislation that effectively addresses the complex tactics used in digital environments, leaving a significant gap in consumer protection.”
