Artificial Intelligence may result in doctors losing their skills after just a few months of use, according to a new study published in The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology Journal .- Bloomberg (13 August 2025).
“During the trial period, some procedures were performed with AI assistance while others were not. The results were stark: when the AI was active, detection rates improved as expected. However, when experienced doctors who had been using the AI went back to performing the procedure without it, their accuracy plummeted.
“Researchers believe the AI prompted an over-reliance on its recommendations, ‘leading to clinicians becoming less motivated, less focused, and less responsible when making cognitive decisions without AI assistance’.”
