On 2 June Business Day reported that Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk plans to request the High Court to prevent compounding pharmacy iDexis from manufacturing, advertising and distributing products containing semaglutide while regulatory investigations continue.
“The company alleges that iDexis is unlawfully compounding and selling a version of its medicines, creating potential public health risks. “
Novo Nordisk has two semaglutide-containing medicines registered in SA: Ozempic, used to treat type 2 diabetes, and Wegovy, used for weight loss. No generic semaglutide products have been registered by the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA).
