Several patients in Gauteng, the Free State and North West reported that HIV tests are being conducted without pre- or post-test counselling, and in some cases, as a non-negotiable prerequisite for receiving any medical treatment. – Health-eNews (12 August 2025)
According to a senior nurse from the Free State healthcare workers experience immense "pressure" from the National Health to meet its “ambitious UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets.
“These global goals aim to ensure that by 2025, 95% of people with HIV know their status, 95% of those diagnosed are on antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 95% of those on ART have a suppressed viral load.”
Meanwhile, National Health condemned any form of non-consensual testing, saying such practices are “not only unethical but also contravene national policy and could warrant disciplinary or corrective action”.
