The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria closed its eighth replenishment round with pledges totalling just $11.34bn; much lower than its ambitious $18bn goal, reported Business Day

However, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a commitment of $26.6m, doubling the $13m undertaking made during the previous replenishment cycle.
“The nation’s total commitment stands at $36.6m, comprising contributions from both the public and private sectors. This public funding is bolstered by significant private sector contributions, including “$5.5m from Goodbye Malaria and $4.5m from Anglo American.
The United States remains the largest single donor; however, its pledge dropped from the $6bn promised under the Biden administration to $4.6bn.”
