SA Pharma firm to conduct clinical trials for Ebola

A SA pharmaceutical company Xylomed Pharmaceuticals plans to launch a major clinical trial for an experimental Ebola treatment in African countries affected by recurring outbreaks of the deadly virus. – Business Day (9 July 2026)
“Mkhululi Palane, group CEO of Mauritius-headquartered Xylomed Pharmaceuticals, said the company’s research had identified a medicine that could prevent the Ebola virus from replicating inside the human body.”
Xylomed’s proposed Ebola treatment is an oral medication. Should it prove effective, the company believes it could be suitable for children as young as two years old.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced that Government had designated 36 hospitals to receive and treat patients should the Ebola virus reach the country. The facilities include 24 public hospitals and 12 private hospitals. – Bloomberg (7 July 2026)
