Health MEC Ntandokazi Capa announced a R76m security upgrade for the Livingstone and Provincial Hospital Complex in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. This follows more than 100 break-ins, burglaries and robberies last year, causing R1.5m in damages and disrupting healthcare services.
The three-year project will include new boundary walls, high-security fencing, CCTV cameras, improved perimeter lighting, upgraded gatehouses and enhanced access control. The upgrades, which also cover nearby medical staff housing, will be completed in five phases to minimise disruption to hospital services. – MedicalBrief (22 July 2026)
