Kennedy promotes use of AI in healthcare

02 Oct 2026

US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is promoting AI as a tool to give Americans greater control over their healthcare, arguing that patients could use it to analyse medical records, obtain second opinions and make informed treatment decisions. - Bloomberg (1 October 2026)
He highlighted the contrast between lengthy medical histories and short doctor consultations, suggesting AI could review information doctors have little time to assess. His vision aligns with growing consumer-directed healthcare, including phone-based medical records, telehealth, cash-pay GLP-1 medicines and direct-to-consumer glucose monitoring.
Drugmakers such as Zealand Pharma are preparing for consumers to play a larger role in healthcare decisions.
However, according to healthcare experts, greater access to information may not translate into healthier behaviour.
