28 Nov 2025

“As the global medical sector races toward automation and artificial intelligence, the CEO of Life Healthcare, Peter Wharton-Hood, warned that technology cannot replace the nurse at the bedside.
He assured stakeholders and patients that the human element of care remains paramount.
“Life Healthcare is currently implementing a strategy designed to digitise the entire patient journey - from the moment of admission through to the submission of medical scheme claims. To achieve this, the group has developed a cloud-based machine learning platform.”
“Revenue from continuing operations rose by 6% to R25.1bn, driven by a 1.1% growth in paid patient days. Consequently, occupancy levels improved to 69.7%, up from 69% the previous year. – Business Day (28 Nov 2025)
